Time to take a look at my neglected garden, clean up, try to eliminate the blackberries that are making an incursion… Dangerous business, blackberry removal. Must get thicker gloves. In the meantime, bumblebees are having a party in the rock cress (aubrietia) that is growing over the stone wall.

First day of real sun in a week. Time to get out of the house!

January on Saturna
Yep, snowdrops (galanthus) are pushing up and starting to open on the sunny, rocky side of the island…

I didn’t plant these bulbs. The previous owner did, in abundant numbers. And their seeds have spread down the hill, to the other side of the house. Soon, the crocus will be out, and then, the daffodils. There are hundreds if not thousands of daffodils around the property. It’s pretty much the only flowering bulbs the deer will not sample…
