Tales from a garden

Yesterday, I visited a friend’s garden. It was late afternoon and the sun had just come out to play. The light was perfect for a little bit of documenting of her gorgeous plants, so here is a set of photos from that moment.

Tales from a Saturna garden…

Clematis blossomsHer plant collection is impressive, and with her expert care, all plants thrive. Including exotics like Himalayan blue poppy:

Blooming – Photo Wednesday

Spring is about… More dailight, warmth, sunshine. Plants are responding. Nature is exhuberant. My fingernails resemble those of a nine-year old boy… short and dirty… from working in the garden.

Beauty. Indoors or outdoors. Quiet happiness.

Western Coralroot Orchid (Corallorhiza mertensiana)And outdoors, on one of my walks… I came across a lovely orchid: Western Coral-root (Corallorhiza mertensiana).

Death Camas Lily (Zigadenus venenosus)And on another excursion… I found the lovely, but deadly Death Camas Lily (Zigadenus venenosus). Best to admire this one from a distance, no touching, and certainly no ingesting…

Ballard Locks in Seattle – Photo Wednesday

Last weekend, I joined a dozen Canadians who went to Seattle, to attend the Surface Design Association Symposium, “Surface Matters“. It was a wonderful weekend, very inspiring.

On Sunday, the Symposium planners held an exhibition and studio tour at the Ballard Works studios and area. It was a wonderful chance to explore the Ballard area on foot.

While wandering in the neighbourhood, I came to the Ballard Locks and Dam. Above, a sculpture located above the fish ladder (click here for the video of salmon swimming through) which is built in the dam. Below, a street shot of the nearby café, which serves many treats, including very decent fish and chips. I really like Seattle!
